The problem
Replacing or modifying a legacy part is impossible without a model, and no drawings exist for most of them. Commercial scanners are priced far beyond a small workshop.
The approach
- 01
Built a capture pipeline on PrimeSense depth hardware through the OpenNI framework.
- 02
Implemented point cloud capture, alignment and mesh reconstruction from multiple scan positions.
- 03
Exported watertight meshes suitable for CAD cleanup, machining or direct 3D printing.
